Rep. Steve Israel, New York Democrat, said Wednesday that he hopes Alex Sink, the Democrat who lost the special election in Florida’s 13th district to David Jolly, will run again in November.

“I hope that she does run again because she did an extraordinary job,” the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said on MSNBC. “This district will be competitive in November. If there’s any consolation prize in this loss, it’s that there’s no other district like this in America.”

Republican David Jolly won the special election for the seat formerly held by Rep. Bill Young, a Republican who died in office earlier this year. Mr. Israel pointed out that special elections have higher GOP turnout, and that Ms. Sink made a great come back in a district that initially put Republicans 13 points ahead.

“You start a baseball game 13 points behind, you claw back to 2 points behind, the good news is you got back 11 runs, the bad news is, we still didn’t win,” he said.
