COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) - Denmark’s ruling sports federation has suspended and fined three ice hockey players in the country’s top league after they admitted to match-fixing in January.
The federation, which doubles as Denmark’s national Olympic committee, gave Esbjerg Energy goalie Dennis Jensen a one-year suspension and fined him 12,550 kroner ($2,331) on Wednesday for attempted match fixing. Two teammates, Kiril Starkov and Tyler Mosienko, received five-game suspensions and smaller fines for placing bets on a match involving their own team.
The men were immediately fired from their clubs in January after they had admitted trying to fix the results of games. The suspensions come into force if they are rehired to play.
Esbjerg Energy is fifth in Denmark’s nine-team top ice hockey league.
