MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The U.S. Air Force’s new budget plan cuts 39 positions in the Wisconsin Air National Guard.

Twenty-three jobs at the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center in Camp Douglas would be eliminated. The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs says 16 positions at the Milwaukee-based 128th Air Refueling Wing would also be affected.

Maj. Gen. Donald Dunbar says he hopes the cuts could be made through attrition. The budget still needs the approval from Congress.

Twenty-three hundred people serve in the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
