BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Two Vermont lawyers have been named as finalists to become the state’s next federal judge.
The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1i73olg) is reporting that Vermont Supreme Court Justice Geoffrey Crawford and Burlington lawyer John Pacht are expected to be interviewed by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy before one name is then passed on to President Barack Obama.
The opening on the federal bench comes after U.S. District Court Judge William K. Sessions III announced in January he would take senior status, which allows him to work part-time.
Crawford worked for years as a state court judge. He was elevated to the state Supreme Court last year. Pacht is a partner in the Burlington law firm of Hoff Curtis Pacht Cassidy & Frame.
Crawford and Pacht were chosen by a nine-member screening commission.
