TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Mark Harlan is the new athletic director at South Florida.

The American Athletic Conference member made the announcement Tuesday, saying the former senior associate athletic director for external relations at UCLA is expected to be in his new position April 7. Harlan will succeed Doug Woolard, who announced his retirement in January.

USF president Judy Genshaft said the 44-year-old’s “experience, enthusiasm and proven leadership” make Harlan an ideal fit for the Bulls.

South Florida has 19 men’s and women’s teams competing in the AAC. The school’s annual athletic budget is about $44 million.
