JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A spokeswoman for Gov. Sean Parnell says Parnell will not withdraw his appointment to a California resident to the board that sets the tax value of the trans-Alaska pipeline system.
Senate Democrats on Monday called on Parnell to withdraw Dennis Mandell’s appointment to the State Assessment Review Board.
Senate Minority Leader Hollis French pointed to a law that states board appointees must be and have been registered voters in the state before the last general election. French said Mandell is not an Alaska resident and that precludes him from serving on an Alaska board.
Parnell spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said by email that the Alaska Constitution is clear. She says the governor is required to appoint U.S. citizens to Alaska’s “quasi-judicial boards and commissions.” She says the appointment meets that requirement.
