TURNER, Maine (AP) - Officials say several puppies are feared lost after a fire at a Maine dog-breeding business.

The blaze at Varney’s Labs in Turner was reported late Monday night.

Firefighters from several communities helped battle the blaze in a barn that housed a complex of kennels.

The business’s owner tells the Sun Journal (https://bit.ly/1fnpwrS ) that most of the dogs were able to get out, but four or five 5-month-old dogs probably didn’t make it out.

There was no immediate word on a cause.

According to its website, Varney’s breeds and sells Labrador retrievers. It has been in business since 1998.
