MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) - An insurance broker is offering free, confidential help to people enrolling in health care coverage through the federal Affordable Care Act.

The free help will be available on Wednesdays starting this week until March 26 at Eastar Health System in Muskogee. The assistance is offered by Tulsa-based broker Magoon & Associates.

Under the health act, most Americans must have health insurance by March 31 to avoid a tax penalty. Insurance experts say March 15 is the last day to apply for coverage to have it in place by the deadline.

Federal subsidies reducing insurance costs are available to qualifying enrollees with incomes up to 400 percent of the federal poverty line.

In Oklahoma, a family of four with a household income up to $94,200 could qualify for such a subsidy.
