ALTON, N.H. (AP) - A runway on frozen Lake Winnipesaukee for small planes has been closed for now after the second plane in two days skidded while landing and crashed into a snowbank. There were no injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Cirrus aircraft veered off the end of the Alton Bay ice runway on Monday night. There were three people on board.

The first crash happened on Saturday morning, damaging the landing gear. The pilot, the only person on board, was not hurt.

Alton Fire Chief Scott Williams said that the ice in Alton Bay is more than 20 inches thick and the planes did not go through the ice at all.

Both accidents are being investigated by New Hampshire State Police and the FAA.
