FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) - The soldiers of Fort Knox’s 3d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) are preparing to depart for Afghanistan and Kuwait and plan a ceremony on Friday to mark the occasion.

The unit will hold a casing ceremony, which prepares the unit flag for movement.

Fort Knox says the 3d ESC’s mission will be recovering and returning military equipment from 12 years of war, transferring and closing bases and providing sustainment to soldiers still in the area.

The post says more than 200 soldiers from the unit completed certifying training in February to simulate what they will encounter in Afghanistan.

The casing ceremony is set for Friday afternoon.
