Rep. Tom Cotton, Arkansas Republican, denied having any “sense of entitlement” from serving in the military, which Sen. Mark Pryor, Arkansas Republican, accused him of last week.
“I certainly didn’t learn one chasing after cattle with Lynn Cotton on the farm,” Mr. Cotton said Monday on MSNBC. “And the last thing my drill sergeant taught me was a sense of entitlement.”
Mr. Cotton, who is challenging Mr. Pryor for his Senate seat later this year, said he joined the military after theSeptember 11 attacks and is a strong advocate for veterans, praising the intangible skills of vets like leadership to employers.
In attack ads, Mr. Pryor has accused Mr. Cotton of being too extreme, which Mr. Cotton countered with Mr. Pryor’s support of the president’s healthcare law.
“The only that’s extreme is casting the decisive vote for Obamacare five years ago and still standing by it today,” he said.
The race for the Arkansas Senate seat is one that could help to change the majority in the Senate. Other watched races, where Democratic senators are being challenged in districts that could go red, include Sen. Kay Hagan, North Carolina Democrat, and Sen. Mary Landrieu, Louisiana Democrat.
