NEW YORK (AP) - New York City first lady Chirlane McCray is postponing her lobbying trip to Albany.

A spokeswoman for McCray says a “scheduling conflict” has scuttled the first lady’s plan to travel to Albany on Tuesday to lobby for her husband Bill de Blasio’s pre-kindergarten proposal.

McCray had announced the trip last week in an interview with The Associated Press.

The spokeswoman says it is not clear when it will be rescheduled.

De Blasio wants to fund universal pre-kindergarten with a tax hike on wealthy New Yorkers. But the state legislature and Gov. Andrew Cuomo have resisted raising taxes.

Cuomo wants to fund the program through the state budget.

De Blasio frequently calls McCray his closest adviser and she heads a charity to raise private money for mayoral initiatives.
