Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed any tea party candidates challenging establishment Republicans in the 2014 midterm elections would not just fail — but fail miserably.
“I think we are going to crush them everywhere,” he said, The New York Times reported, “I don’t think they are going to have a single nominee anywhere in the country.”
Mr. McConnell faces concerted challenge himself, most notably from a Kentuckian named Matt Bevin, a businessman who’s branded himself a true conservative, The Blaze reported.
“Mitch McConnell is clearly in trouble in his primary, or he wouldn’t be attacking Matt Bevin and declaring war on conservatives,” the Senate Conservatives Fund’s Matt Hoskins told The New York Times.
The Kentucky primary is set for May 20.
