IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An Iowa City man has been sentenced to 17 years in prison in connection to crashing an SUV through a store at Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.

A judge sentenced 24-year-old Joseph Moreno on Monday to 10 years for first-degree criminal mischief. He was given five years for intimidation with a dangerous weapon and two years for reckless use of a firearm. He must serve half his sentence before parole eligibility.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/1lPZCk1 ) Moreno pleaded guilty to the charges in October. He was arrested in late December 2012 after crashing his car through a Scheels store. Shotguns, rifles and ammunition were strewn about the store. A handgun had been fired.

Moreno’s roommate told police that Moreno fired a gun in their apartment before the crash.
