WASHINGTON (AP) - The man who blew the whistle on illegal activity during District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray’s 2010 campaign is endorsing one of Gray’s rivals.

Sulaimon Brown announced Monday that D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser has his support in the April 1 Democratic primary. He says the mayor’s office needs “a woman’s touch” to move the city past what he calls a corrupt administration.

Brown was a candidate for mayor in 2010. He revealed after Gray took office that Gray’s campaign paid him to stay in the race and make negative comments about then-mayor Adrian Fenty. Brown came forward after being fired from a $110,000-a-year Gray administration job.

His comments led to an ongoing federal investigation of Gray’s campaign. Four people who worked on the campaign have pleaded guilty to felonies.
