SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Trader Joe’s says they will be opening a store in Vermont this spring.

Company officials say the store will be the first Trader Joe’s in the state. Trader Joe’s is a grocery chain that prides itself on private label items that officials say don’t include genetically modified ingredients or artificial flavors and preservatives.

Trader Joe’s officials tell The Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1frNdQM ) that the planned 12,800 square foot store will open on May 16 in South Burlington next to the Healthy Living Market and Cafe.

South Burlington approved plans for the store in July 2013.

Property owner Malone Dorset Street Properties, LLC destroyed three homes to make room for the project.
