BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - The NCAA has approved the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s request to change its automatic qualification policy this year for the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments.

Under the ruling announced Saturday, Grambling State, Mississippi Valley State, Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff - ineligible for the NCAA tournaments because of Academic Progress Rates restrictions - will be allowed to play in the conference tournaments.

The top eligible team in each of conference tournaments will receive the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. If there is a tie, the automatic berth will go to the highest-seeded team.
