ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez and other state officials have unveiled New Mexico’s newest gallery aimed at finding homes for children in foster case.
She visited Albuquerque on Friday to celebrate the opening of the Heart Gallery at the Office of African American Affairs. The exhibit features the portraits of African-American foster kids who are available for adoption.
This is the 14th Heart Gallery to open in New Mexico.
Martinez says it’s another step forward in the state’s effort to find families for the children.
Galleries are also up inside the governor’s office in Santa Fe, at the Albuquerque Sunport, UNM Hospital, UNM Arena and several other locations around the state.
As of January, there were close to 2,000 New Mexico children in foster care. In Bernalillo County, there are 215 children who are available for adoption.
