SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A former Pennsylvania senator found mentally incompetent to stand trial on corruption charges will remain in a federal prison hospital in North Carolina until at least June.
The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1gJekDy ) reports a letter from the warden at the Federal Medical Center at Butner in Granville County, N.C., has been filed in Musto’s federal court records in Scranton.
The 84-year-old former lawmaker remains in custody on charges he accepted cash and other perks in exchange for his help obtaining taxpayer money for development projects and took additional cash for helping a municipality get state loans.
Musto reported to the prison hospital Feb. 3 after a federal judge ruled he was physically but not mentally able to stand trial.
The warden’s letter says Musto’s evaluation period will end June 2.
