The world’s oldest man has died at the age of 111.
Alexander Imich passed away Sunday peacefully in his Upper West Side apartment, the New York Post reported.
Just a month ago, he was explaining to friends his theory of why he was living so long: “I don’t know, I simply didn’t die earlier. I have no idea how this happened,” he said, the New York Post reported.
But he led a life of healthy eating and exercising, and largely stayed away from alcohol.
Mr. Imich, who had no children, had fled the Nazis during their invasion of Poland.
A Japanese man who was born one day after Mr. Imich is now the oldest man in the world, the New York Post reported. Sixty-six women, however, are older. One in Japan is known to be 116.
