Police say they’ve arrested a Washington man on charges of stealing $9,200 worth of clubs and other sports-related gear — and they’re considering him an addict with a serious golfing problem.
“Burglaries are often the result of addictions — drugs, alcohol or gambling,” Bremerton Police Chief Steve Strachan said in a press release, reported by United Press International. “I think this is the first one we have seen that looks like a golf addiction.”
The suspect, 26, who wasn’t publicly named, was charged with taking more than 50 clubs from the Gold Mountain Golf Course. He then tried to sell the equipment online and that’s what led to his arrest on charges of trafficking in stolen property and burglary, police said.
Police said his apartment contained “golf paraphernalia, photos of himself playing golf and a hat reading ’Born to Golf, Force to Work,’ ” nearby the stolen equipment, UPI reported.
The man is unemployed but has nevertheless found the money to play at the Gold Mountain course eight times in the past year, UPI said.
