Five people, including two police officers and two shooters, are dead after a shooting rampage in Las Vegas Sunday, according to news reports.
According to a report from The Associated Press, at around 11:30 a.m. two shooters targeted two police officers — Officer Alyn Beck, 41, and Officer Igor Soldo, 31 — eating lunch at Cici’s Pizza. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval has confirmed that both officers were killed in the attack, the AP reports.
The suspects reportedly disarmed the officers before exiting the restaurant, Kevin McMahill, assistant sheriff with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, told KVVU Fox 5.
Police say that the two shooters, a man and a woman, then ran into a nearby Wal-Mart, where they killed one person. Then, the woman shooter turned the gun on her male counterpart, shooting and killing him before fatally shooting herself in an apparent murder-suicide pact, Las Vegas police said on its Facebook page.
Early reports on the condition of the officers, now confirmed dead, were unclear. Police spokesperson Jesse Royba initially told press that the officers had died, according to The New York Times, but a second spokesperson, Larry Hadfield, said that the officers were critically injured.
Mr. Hadfield also told Fox News that one of the suspects yelled, “This is a revolution,” but added the suspects’ motive in the shootings was still under investigation.
Wal-Mart released the following statement in the aftermath of Sunday’s shootings:
“We express our deepest condolences to everyone who has been affected by this senseless act of violence. Our store is currently closed. This is still an active investigation, and we are working with local police.”
