A generic Republican candidate would have a four-point edge over a Democrat on who voters would support in their congressional district if the midterm elections were held now, according to a new Fox News poll.
Forty-three percent of voters would support the GOP candidate in their district and 39 percent would support the Democratic one, the poll said.
The survey also suggests Republicans are more motivated to vote in the fall at this point. The so-called “enthusiasm gap” has been a worry for Democrats after the last midterm cycle in 2010, when Republicans won historic gains in seats in re-taking control of the House.
Among voters who are “extremely” or “very” interested the election, 48 percent would back the GOP candidate and 37 percent would support the Democratic candidate.
The overall survey of 1,006 registered voters conducted from June 1-3 has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
