Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton insists “there will never be perfect clarity” or full agreement on everything that happened regarding the Sept. 11, 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya — but that does not mean a lack of effort on getting to the truth.
“There will never be perfect clarity on everything that happened,” Mrs. Clinton writes in her book, “Hard Choices,” according to excerpts published by CBS News.
“It is unlikely that there will ever be anything close to full agreement on exactly what happened that night, how it happened, or why it happened. But that should not be confused with a lack of effort to discover the truth or to share it with the American people.”
In a previously reported excerpt, Mrs. Clinton criticizes people who she says are using the attack on the U.S. consulate that killed four Americans for political gain.
“Those who exploit this tragedy over and over as a political tool minimize the sacrifice of those who served our country,” Mrs. Clinton writes in the excerpt reported by Politico. “I will not be a part of a political slugfest on the backs of dead Americans.”
The House has established a select committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, and many Republicans on Capitol Hill have said they want to ask Mrs. Clinton more questions about it.
