The former Georgetown law student once called a “slut” by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh will appear on the ballot next fall as a candidate for California state Senate after finishing second in this week’s primary.
Women’s rights activist and now-lawyer Sandra Fluke finished second this week in California’s open primary, guaranteeing her a slot on the November ballot, reported the Daily Breeze. Ms. Fluke is know for her testimony before Congress in February 2012 in support of mandatory contraception coverage, which prompted Mr. Limbaugh to call her a “slut” and a “prostitute” who was “having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception.”
Now Ms. Fluke will face off against rival Ben Allen in November to replace Democratic state Sen. Ted Lieu, who vacated his 26th District state Senate seat to run for Congress this year. Both Ms. Fluke and Mr. Allen are Democrats.
Ms. Fluke was considering a run for outgoing Democratic Rep. Henry A. Waxman’s congressional seat before deciding to run for state office.
