New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie may have alienated a swath of constituents with the “Bridgegate” scandal, but as a dad, he’s still tops.
The national Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council is poised to present the blunt-talking Republican with a Father of the Year award Wednesday during a ceremony in Manhattan, the Associated Press reported.
Mr. Christie, father of four, often refers to his children in speeches and public addresses. The council members say he’s a great example of someone who successfully combines family duties with a full-time and demanding career, AP reported.
Mr. Christie will share the stage with football Hall of Famer Curtis Martin, shoe creator and designer Vince Camuto and Bloomingdale shop CEO Tony Spring, AP reported.
Previous winners include previous presidents Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan as well as basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, according to AP.
Mr. Christie, a potential GOP candidate for the White House in 2016, saw some of his political star power fade when it surfaced that some of his most trusted aides restricted vehicle access to a bridge in the district of a mayor who didn’t support the governor’s re-election campaign.
