Android phone banking app leaves 86 percent of users open to hack: report

Android users who run some of Google’s older versions of software are vulnerable to hack attacks — particularly when it comes to banking and financial information.

The flaw was discovered at Android’s KeyStore, the part of the system that is responsible for encrypting data, the Daily Mail reported. Due to technological glitches, hackers could now access users’ banking data and personal passwords tied to KeyStore accounts, the newspaper said.

Researchers found the flaw nine months ago and warned Google. Google has since updated its newer models — the Android 4.4 — but older ones still contain the vulnerabilities, the Daily Mail reported.

Industry watchers say that means up to 86 percent of all Android users could be at risk.
