A majority of Americans — including 52 percent of political independents — support an additional congressional investigation into the Obama administration’s handling of the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack on a U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya.
Fifty-one percent of Americans support an additional investigation and 42 percent say the matter has been investigated enough, said a new ABC-Washington Post poll.
The U.S. House recently voted to form a select committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, which claimed the lives of four Americans.
About seven in 10 Republicans back an additional investigative panel, compared to three in 10 Democrats.
Fifty-eight percent say the Obama administration has tried to cover up the facts of the incident compared to 32 percent who say the administration has honestly disclosed what it knows about about what happened.
And 50 percent disapprove of former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s handling of the situation compared to 37 percent who approve.
