The captured Libyan accused of leading the deadly attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi that killed four Americans has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy charges on Saturday afternoon. Ahmed Abu Khattala appeared before a federal magistrate judge in Washington.
Ahmed Abu Khatallah was flown to Washington early Saturday morning by helicopter from the USS New York warship were he has been held since his capture nearly two weeks ago.
A grand jury indictment says Abu Khattala took part in a conspiracy to provide material support and resources to terrorists in the 2012 attacks that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, information officer Sean Smith, and former navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty.
In court, he wore a black track suit. He looked impassively at the judge for most of his court hearing, the Associated Press reported.
