A New York City woman is suing public transportation after she says she was startled by an advertisement for the Showtime murder series “Dexter,” causing her to take a tumble down the stairs at Grand Central Terminal.
Ajanaffy Njewadda and her husband are suing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Showtime for placing the ad in what they say is a dangerous location for pedestrians, DNAinfo New York reported.
The poster shows a closeup of Dexter, played by Michael C. Hall, with cellophane covering his face. It was placed on the steps at Grand Central in such a way that it was only viewable to pedestrians ascending the stairwell.
Mrs. Njewadda claims she was descending the stairs when she looked back to try and find her husband. She says the poster frightened her, causing her to lose her balance and fall. She broke her ankle, suffered a concussion, and had to see a psychiatrist to shake the memory of the poster, the couple’s lawyer, Rehan Nazrali, told DNAinfo.
“She was having nightmares about it,” he said.
A Showtime spokeswoman told the website that the network couldn’t comment because it had not yet received the lawsuit. An MTA spokeswoman wouldn’t comment on pending litigation, DNAinfo reported.
