A U.S. sailor has died during a parachute jump in the desert of Southern California, the Navy said.

Navy Special Warfare Group One reported the death, but did not release the name of the sailor, The Associated Press reported.

Specifics of the accident aren’t yet known, but the Navy has launched an investigation.

The sailor, who died in El Centro, had been assigned to the Naval Special Warfare Command, a West Coast-based facility.

Naval Air Facility El Centro is located about 100 miles from San Diego, near the Mexico border.
