“Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson took another turn in the national media spotlight, telling a crowd of Rock the South festival-goers in Cullman, Ala., that he’s truly a nice person, that he is trying to help homosexuals find Jesus and that voters need to boot the current batch of politicians from Capitol Hill.
The outspoken reality star made the remarks during a weekend stage Q&A hosted by Greg & Speedy at Rock the South — first shrugging off criticisms about his recently reported comments on gays, AL.com said.
“I’m actually a nice man,” he said, referring to his much-reported interview with GQ during which he cited passages from the Bible that show the sin of homosexuality. “I’m trying to help those poor souls and turn them to Jesus.”
Mr. Robertson, 68, also fielded questions about his former football days at Louisiana Tech, his favorite food — squirrel and dumplings — and his favorite rock bands, including Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company. He wrapped with a few tossed footballs to the crowd — and a political caveat.
“Hey, Alabama, whatever you do, register to vote for this presidential election,” Mr. Robertson said, AL.com reported. “Go vote for the House and Senate, too. Vote this ungodly bunch out of Washington, D.C.”
