Chelsea Clinton doesn’t really care for money, she told the Telegraph. Her comments come just after her famous mother, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, raised eyebrows by claiming the Clintons were “dead broke” when they left the White House.
In the interview, the 34-year-old former first daughter said: “I was curious if I could care about [money] on some fundamental level, and I couldn’t. That wasn’t the metric of success I wanted in my life,” the New York Post reported.
Ms. Clinton’s pay at NBC for occasional story production is $600,000, various media recently reported. She’s also taken on a leading — and paying — role at her parent’s Clinton Foundation, the New York Post said.
The remarks come as Mrs. Clinton is still trying to shake off negative press from her ABC interview a couple weeks ago during which she said her family “came out of the White House not only dead broke but in debt.”
Mrs. Clinton then followed that flub with another, just this past Sunday.
Then, she said during an interview with The Guardian: “We pay ordinary income tax, unlike a lot of people who are truly well off, not to name names; and we’ve done it through dint of hard work.”
Against this backdrop, Mrs. Clinton continues to earn up to $200,000 per speaking engagement.
