D.C. Councilman Marion Barry ranted about a nonexistent yogurt tax after he misheard a reporter’s question on the so-called “yoga tax” on yoga classes and gym memberships.
“Yogurt is really more healthy than some other things, as is cottage cheese,” the Democrat said Friday night at a dinner in his honor, the weekly Washington City Paper reported Monday.
“I don’t know who proposed that,” Mr. Barry said. “I think (Councilman Jack Evans) proposed that. I’m not sure. But whoever proposed it, it shouldn’t be.”
Mr. Evans’ spokesman Tom Lipinsky confirmed to the paper that his boss hasn’t proposed a yogurt tax and doesn’t plan to.
