Sen. Rand Paul, in his appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, refused to criticize President Obama’s handling of Iraq, but he did say that Hillary Rodham Clinton was going to have to answer for her actions, or lack thereof, leading up to the 2012 terrorist incident that killed four Americans.
“We will make her answer for Benghazi,” the Kentucky Republican said of Mrs. Clinton, according to Yahoo News. “She will have to explain how she can be commander in chief when she was not responsive to multiple requests for more security in the six months leading up [to the attack].”
He also said he thought Benghazi should disqualify Mrs. Clinton from serving as president.
“[The] American people want a commander in chief that will send reinforcements, that will defend the country, and that will provide the adequate security. And I think in the moment of need — a long moment, a six-month moment — she wasn’t there,” he said on the news program, according to Yahoo.
Mr. Paul is reportedly considering a run for the White House in 2016, though he has made no official announcements of his candidacy.
As for Mr. Obama, Mr. Paul said he did not blame the commander in chief for the current escalation of tensions in Iraq.
“Has he really got the solution? Maybe there is no solution. But I do blame the Iraq War on the chaos that is in the Middle East,” Mr. Paul said.
