Sen. John McCain was the unwitting target of a couple of White House reporters’ jokes — and now the nation knows just what MSNBC’s Chuck Todd and Fox News’ Ed Henry think of the Arizona politico.

Basically, they think his messages are confusing.

Mr. McCain supports U.S. airstrikes on Iraq; Gen. David Petraeus, however, does not. So Mediaite reported that the two reporters were waiting for President Obama to give his statements on Iraq, when Mr. Todd asked Mr. Henry — as captured on video from The Right Pundit — what he thought Mr. McCain was thinking about Mr. Petraeus’ recently broadcast views on Iraq.

“[Has anyone] checked on [him]? I’ve got to think McCain must have had heart palpitations,” Mr. Todd joked, Mediaite reported.

And Mr. Henry’s response: “What’s funny is that McCain was on our air an hour ago saying we should send Petraeus to Iraq.”

But that was one day after Mr. Petraeus spoke publicly about the United States’ role in the escalating conflict, saying America’s military “can’t be the air force for Iraq,” Mr. Henry said.
