An Afghan province spokesman said members of the Taliban fired a mortar shell at a home in the eastern region, killing a child who was inside at the time.
Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the governor in Nangarhar province, said Friday’s attack at a home in Momand Dara district injured five others in the house, The Associated Press reported.
All were family members, he said.
Mr. Abdulzai said the motive behind the attack wasn’t yet clear. But he also said Taliban members frequently fire off rockets and mortar shells at villages for no obvious reason, AP said.
The age of the child wasn’t known.
