A man fatally shot himself Friday morning in Arlington National Cemetery, according to a release.
Emergency personnel responded to reports of a gunshot at 10 a.m. in Section 64, a release from the cemetery said. When they arrived, they found a man dead at the scene with a single gunshot wound.
The shooting happened near the Columbarium, which contains urns and cremated remains.
Military police from Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, special agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command and officers from the Arlington County Police Department responded to the scene, though the Army CID will take the lead in continuing the investigation.
“Although we have not completely ruled it out in order to conduct a complete and thorough investigation, we do not suspect foul play at this point in the investigation,” said Army CID spokesman Chris Grey.
The cemetery is still open to visitors and funerals are continuing as planned. The Army is not releasing the name of the deceased until next of kin is notified.
