Rap artist Kanye West subtly slammed President Obama, saying that change can’t be effected absent scores of money — and that attempts to wield power from the White House to bring about policy is nonsensical.
“You can’t effect change from inside the White House like that,” Mr. West said during a recent appearance on California radio station Power 106, speaking on Mr. Obama’s work to bring about policy reforms. “You got to have the money. Good ideas usually aren’t connected to money as much.”
At the same time, Mr. West also said, “creativity and extreme genius are extremely cheap.”
Mr. West, who recently married reality TV star Kim Kardashian, said detractors should keep quiet because he’s “on a mission from God.”
“Don’t worry about how I’m saying what I’m saying,” he said. “Look at what I’m saying and how I feel my intent is. You do not want to go against the power. I’m working on one mission, and that’s a mission from God. I’m going to make it very clear exactly what I’m here to do. I’m here to help. I’m going to apply all the blessings I’ve got. We’re moving to the future. I’m going to be the anchor.”
Mr. West vowed just a few months ago to never mention Mr. Obama’s name again because he felt the president was using his name as a public relations ploy to appear to be “down” with youth.
