First lady Michelle Obama got a little carried away with her title Monday, correcting herself after suggesting to supporters that she, too, got elected in 2008.
At a Democratic fundraiser in Boston, Mrs. Obama asked the audience to remember “when we took office.”
Then she said, “Well, when Barack took office and I was there.”
She said the president has accomplished a lot of the “change” he promised in 2008.
“Just five years later, now that we’ve had 50 straight months of job growth, now that this administration has created 9.2 million private sector jobs and our auto industry has come roaring back — now that we’re here, it’s easy to forget where we started,” Mrs. Obama said to cheers.
Most political analysts believe Democrats won’t win back the House this year, but Mrs. Obama predicted that a Democratic House is “doable.” Democrats would need to pick up 17 seats in November, a feat even that even the president usually doesn’t speak about optimistically.

“That’s a doable number,” Mrs. Obama said, if voters turn out in the midterm elections. “If we lose these midterm elections, it’s gonna be a whole lot harder to finish what we started together.”
