Hollywood star George Clooney, 53, fresh off an announced plan to wed his British human rights attorney-girlfriend Amal Alamuddin, 36, now says he’s going to turn his attention away from acting and on to something with a more service oriented slant: Politics and political office.
“He has big ambitions and aims to get into politics imminently,” one friend speaking on condition of anonymity told the British Mirror. “Now he has Amal by his side it will give him more credibility to run for office.”
It’s not clear which office the actor might seek.
But Mr. Clooney is a Democrat and on reported friendship status with President Obama. He’s already gone the road of political activism, taking up the campaign reins for Mr. Obama in 2012, and adding an arrest record to his repertoire around the same time for planning a protest outside the Sudanese Embassy over Darfur, Newsmax reported.
He’s also waded into the climate change debate, calling arguments against what he characterizes as sound science as “stupid,” Newsmax said.
Ms. Amal, who’s due to wed the long-time bachelor in September, is perhaps best known for serving as legal representation for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
