The U.S. Chamber of Commerce rolled out a new TV ad this week in which retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre urges voters to support Sen. Thad Cochran’s re-election push.

“I have learned through football that strong leadership could be the difference between winning and losing, and when it comes to our state’s future, trust me, Mississippi can win, and win big with Thad Cochran as our strong voice in Washington,” Mr. Favre says in the 30-second spot.

Mr. Cochran failed to win the GOP nomination outright in the Mississippi primary earlier this month and will square off against state Sen. Chris McDaniel in a two-person runoff race for the party’s nomination on Tuesday.

The winner will face former Rep. Travis Childers, a Democrat, in the November election.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has spent $1 million on behalf of Mr. Cochran, OpenSecrets.org said. The Club for Growth, meanwhile, has spent more than $3.1 million on behalf of Mr. McDaniel.

In the chamber’s ad, Mr. Favre, who was born in Gulfport and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, says Mr. Cochran deserves another term in Congress because he always delivers. He also touts the role the veteran lawmaker played in securing school funding and emergency relief following Hurricane Katrina.

“On June 24, I encourage you to stand with a proven and respected leader — Thad Cochran,” he says. “Please tell your family and friends, ’Let’s stand with Thad.’ “
