Leaders of Catholic News Agency (CNA) and Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) announced a new partnership Thursday.

CNA — along with the Spanish and Portuguese operations in the ACI Prensa Group — are “one of the largest generators of Catholic news content in three languages,” said Alejandro Bermudez, executive director of CNA and ACI Prensa Group.

Merging with EWTN “is a synergistic, natural step to take a ’match made in Heaven,’” he said.

CNA and ACI Prensa Group are “highly respected news organizations” and “I am very pleased and excited” that they “will become a part of the EWTN family of services,” said Michael Warsaw, chairman of the board of EWTN.

The parties will exchange no cash, and EWTN will assume responsibility for the activities of its new partners, according to a press announcement.

EWTN Global Catholic Network, based in Irondale, Alabama, has been broadcasting for more than three decades and reaches 230 million households in 140 countries. It also has radio broadcasts, a website, print news services and a publishing arm.

Denver-based CNA was founded a decade ago and has bureaus in Rome and Washington, D.C., as well as in Peru and Chile.

ACI Prensa, founded in 1980 in Lima, is a leading outlet for Spanish-language Catholic news and reporting. It also operates a Portuguese-language operation, ACI Digital, in Brazil.

In 2011, EWTN also acquired the National Catholic Register, the oldest national Catholic newspaper in the U.S.
