President Obama’s poll numbers on foreign policy have hit the lowest level of his White House career, new statistics from a joint NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey showed. And what’s even more significant: The poll didn’t even include any questions about Iraq.
Fully 54 percent in the poll said Mr. Obama isn’t even competent enough to lead the country.
By the numbers: Fifty-seven percent disapprove of how Mr. Obama is dealing with overseas issues — a record low for Mr. Obama that doesn’t even include the growing terrorist takeover of Iraq. NBC News reported the survey was put together before Iraq made national headlines, so no questions were included on that topic.
Another 44 percent found Mr. Obama’s exchange of five Taliban militants at Guantanamo Bay for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl a poor decision, the poll found.
“This is a bad poll for President Obama and not a good poll for anybody else,” said Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who joined with Democrats Peter Hart and Fred Yang to conduct the poll, NBC News reported.
Mr. Hart added: “Whether it’s Putin, Ukraine, the VA hospitals, Bowe Bergdahl — the events have controlled Obama, rather than Obama having controlled the events. He may be winning the issues debate, but he’s losing the political debate, because they don’t see him as a leader.”
