Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl’s life is getting the Hollywood treatment. The writer and director behind “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Hurt Locker” are working to get the controversial soldier’s story on the big screen.
Director Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal are putting together a project that will tell Sgt. Bergdahl’s story, the Oregonian reported Monday. The soldier was captured in June 2009 by the Taliban and held for five years, although the details of his disappearance from his platoon are still under investigation.
Ms. Bigelow is not slated to direct, however, because she will be working on a military movie titled “True American,” the Oregonian reported.
Sgt. Bergdahl was released by the Taliban for five top commanders who were held at Guantanamo Bay detention center. The Obama administration came under withering criticism for the move, in part because it did not give key congressional committees 30 days advance notice of the release of the suspected terrorists.
