A teen who’s a Roma migrant — a Gypsy — was attacked and left for dead by a group of vigilantes who suspected him of stealing and seized him from his camp in a remote section of France.

Now, anti-discrimination groups in France are demanding the government step in and take action against the vigilantes, The Associated Press reported.

One police official, Luc Poignant, said in a LCI television broadcast that a dozen or so people went to the camp where the teen was staying, seeking out who they thought burglarized an apartment in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine, AP reported. Police then found the teen left for dead by the side of the road.

Mr. Poignant reported that the youth was placed in a medically induced coma “because he was in so much pain,” AP reported.

Gypsies in France who migrate from Eastern Europe have been targeted for attack in recent times because they’re frequently believed to be to blame for various petty thefts in the country.
