One of the nation’s leading health policy experts told a pro-Obamacare crowd in Washington on Tuesday he’s used to adversity from his tenure as a cabinet official in New Jersey’s capital.
“That’s the only reason to go to Trenton, New Jersey, if you don’t have to go to Trenton, New Jersey,” Drew Altman, CEO of the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, told a crowd of nearly 1,000 people tied to Enroll America, a nonprofit that tried to get Americans covered under Obamacare.
First, he had a hard time finding his office as the new commissioner of the Department of Human Services under Gov. Tom Kean, a Republican.
Mr. Altman managed to get a good sign on the building, but its unveiling revealed that he worked at the Department of “Hunan” Services.
“I wanted to keep the sign and change the services,” he said to laughter.
