The president of the Catholic League called House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi a foe of the church after she tried to persuade the San Francisco archbishop to back off from a rally for traditional marriage.

Bill Donohue penned a letter about Mrs. Pelosi — who recently wrote a letter of her own to San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, asking him to back off participation in a rally for traditional marriage — in which he called her a “rabid foe of the Church’s positions,” The Blaze reported.

Mr. Donohue also wrote: “Pelosi is urging [the archbishop] to cancel his plans because the event is not supported by her homosexual friends. … When gays go naked in the streets of San Francisco, and mock Catholicism in patently obscene ways, Pelosi is never offended. What offends her is her archbishop’s public defense of the Church’s teachings on marriage. Nice to know what her moral compass looks like.”

Mrs. Pelosi’s letter to the archbishop included her mention of her personal love of the Catholic faith, along with this statement, The Blaze reported: “While we may disagree on the subject of marriage equality, we do agree that every person is a child of God, possessed of the spark of divinity and worthy of respect.”
