Rep. Lou Barletta of Pennsylvania said Monday that a resolution to impeach President Obama would “probably” pass the GOP-controlled House if brought up for vote.
Mr. Barletta said Republicans would likely sign off on such an impeachment resolution because they are so sick and tired of the Obama administration ignoring the U.S. Constitution and sidestepping Congress.
“The problem is what do you do? For those who say impeach him for breaking the laws and bypassing the laws, you know, could that pass in the House? It probably could,” Mr. Barletta said on the Gary Sutton radio show, which was first reported by the Buzzfeed website. “Is the majority of the American people in favor of impeaching the president? I am not sure about that.”
Mr. Barletta also said that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s stunning loss last week in Virginia showed what happens when voters feel lawmakers are not standing up for them.
“They are going to throw you out, and they are going to send someone else,” Mr. Barletta said. “There is a big message here that people in Washington better pay close attention to.”
