The bogeyman is real for the children of military mom Darla Donohue.

While her husband was away Thursday night, she heard noises coming from her 6-year-old son’s room at about 4 a.m. After calling police and grabbing a billy club to investigate, she found a man underneath the bed wielding a knife — and change from her son’s piggy bank.

Kenneth Webb, a 56-year-old homeless man, was taken from the Fair Lawn, New Jersey, home and charged with two counts of burglary and unlawful possession, a local ABC affiliate reported. Mr. Webb is also a convicted felon.

“It’s scary when you have two kids and your husband’s not home. The heart pounds when you don’t know who’s in your home and what they’re there for,” Mrs. Donohue told ABC.

The boy was sleeping with his mother and baby sister in another room at the time, the affiliate reported.

The suspect was being held on $35,000 ball in Bergen County Jail.
